I have some news to share… sigh…

I don’t even know how to start this blog entry… its one of the most difficult things I have had to write, ever…

About 16 months ago, Urban Anthology started as a dream to have my own business, which is something that I truly enjoyed doing. Over the year, I have learned so much about scrapbooking that I never knew… I have met so many wonderful, talented, and caring people. The people who have visited and participated in the UA form have been AWESOME. I don’t think I could have hand picked a better group of friends if I would have tried on my own. So you are probably wondering why am I saying all of this???

I am sad to announce that Urban Anthology is changing directions with its business, and will no longer be offering kits after the November 2009 shipment.  I can honestly say this has been a tough decision after a long year of hard work designing kits, researching what’s hot, and gaining the confidence of our customer base. I truly love looking at all of the beautiful papers, mixing and matching them with the hottest embellishments and seeing the UA design team create some of the most fantastic layouts, cards, and altered projects I have seen. They have been so inspiring!

So what WILL Urban Anthology be doing?

For now we will still be hanging out here online with our forum, and will be converting out blog to a challenge based blog. I am looking forward to challenging you with lots of fun challenges and blog candy… Urban Anthology will also continue selling goods online… expect to see some fun embellishment kits, as well as unique trims, and some occasional kits. Urban Anthology will be focusing a majority of its efforts on selling supplies at scrapbooking retreats in the Southern California/Nevada Area. We hope to see you at one of these retreats… You can find out where we will be at on our blog as well.

Now what does all mean?‪

I have decided that the November Kit, will be Urban Anthology’s last kit for now. The forum will remain open, the blog will be maintained with Challenges, and the store will be available for purchasing items as well.

What about the current DT challenges?

Well I never dreamed that this was going to happen when it did… but no time is ever a good time. Challenge 5 has been posted, and is due October 22nd, as indicated in the challenge post. Instead of choosing a design team, I will be  picking  4 winners of the challenges, and will be given a November kit for playing along. We hope to see some things that you create with it. Anything created with this kit and posted in the gallery for the kit, will be featured on our blog.  Those of you who do not win a kit, and have been playing along with us from the beginning or who have submitted a complete portfolio of all 5 challenges in our gallery by the due date, will receive $10 gift card to the Urban Anthology store as a thank you gift for participating in our Design Team Call.

And a BIG THANK YOU!

I want to thank you all for this wonderful and challenging run with Urban Anthology and it’s kits. I truly love the people I have met through this venture, and hope to keep you all close by as you are truly talented and wonderful group.‪ I look forward to seeing you all on the forum, as well as joining in on the blog with our challenges.

I want to thank all the current and past design team members. The help I have received from my team members has been tremendous! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I also want to thank those who have helped me who were not on the design team, my UA Team, that was working to help me grow my business, helping with challenges, and anything else I needed help with! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Finally…

Please feel free to contact me with any questions kari@urban-anthology.com. And remember WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS, and we are not going away… we are just changing directions of business at this time.

Please sign-up for our newsletter to follow what will be going on, and where we will be. Urban Anthology does not sell, nor share your information with other companies, and we promise not solicit you with useless mailings… we will be sending out monthly updates… and any other exciting news that may happen… like store specials, and those special kits here and there.

The last kits…

The October Kit will be shipping tomorrow, and what’s up for the November kit????  Sneaks will be posted shortly, its one beautiful winter kit. And we will be having a special limited edition Christmas kit as well… this will be announced next week. :)

Thank you all! And see you at the challenges. :)

It Leaves you Breathless, October 2009 Kit

Or sign up for the kit club, to ensure you get a kit each and every month.

Take a look at this months kit, you can get a list of all the goods in our store. And remember these kits come with EXCLUSIVELY designed tags, by the one and only Keri B. (Jade). Also, this month we will be featuring some overlays that coordinate with the tags!

OOPS… I did it AGAIN!

I can’t believe summer is nearly over, and that fall is creeping up on us… I wake up in the morning, to deep blue skys watching the sunrise… gone are the day’s of sunny mornings at 5 AM! We know fall is coming when back packs, notebooks, pencils and all the school supplies show up at the stores. We start seeing all of those “back to school” ads on TV and in the newspapers… the stores are stocked with jeans, long pants, sweaters (obviously these designers have never gone back to school in the Midwest where air conditioning is a luxury, and not common at most schools in August!)… seeing the latest release of October Afternoon’s Road Map collection reminded me of those prep school uniforms I have seen on TV, or those cozy flannel sheets I love so much…  with that inspiration, I bring you the Urban Anthology September Kit, Oops… I did it again! This kit brings you an assortment of bold primary colors, perfect for scrapping those school time photos, masculine work, or anything fun and funky to go with the bold prints. You will find an assortment of papers from the October Afternoon Road Map Collection and Sassafras lass Monstrosity Collection. And as always an assortment of embellishments full of texture, color, and dimension. Reserve yours today, as there only a few left… or signup for our Kit Club and ensure the delivery of THIS kit and future kits!

Kristin's Kit Workshop: Keri's Kickin' Tags

One more “Kickin’” way to use Keri’s tags …..I have been looking at some of the trends in scrapbooking right now and it is putting bits & pieces of paper and embellishments around your pictures…so this is what I came up with ….

This is what you need:
July kit
Glimmer Mist

First I pulled out Keri’s tags and cut out the pear and the cherries …and then cut the rest of the tags in 1/2…

Next, I flipped the pear & cherries over and used them as a mask on the top left hand corner of my page and sprayed Glimmer Mist to make a masking effect (sorry for the bad pictures but white on white does not photo well) ..

Finished product:

First I went to picnik.com and played with my picture …had some fun there …thanks Eva!!!

Then I wanted to anchor everything on the page so I added some trim to the top and bottom of my photo to the page and then placed my tags where I wanted them, then distressed them and adhered them down …next I put the little pearls in the circles were the numbers were and added my title …last I scrapped the edges of my layout and added some ink …..thanks for looking!!!!

July Kit Workshop – Instant Book – Pam

Once again, I am TOTALLY inspired by the WONDERFUL and ORIGINAL Urban Anthology EXCLUSIVE journaling tags, created by our very own SUPER-TALENTED Ms. Keri (aka Jade)!!

The July kit tags are really something special, and I knew I wanted to do something a bit different than just use them as journaling spaces…

So, I decided to make two items… An instant book AND an ATC (Artist Trading Card defined HERE)

I make instant books with my students, and came across the PERFECT DIRECTIONS in a FAB book about “making books” called, How to Make Books, by Esther K. Smith (illustrations by Lindsay Stadig)… I have scanned and posted the pictoral steps to making a small instant book from an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper, below. (Practice with an piece of scrap bond paper BEFORE you make your real book from trimmed patterned paper.)

Once you have a “handle” on how to fold the instant book, gather your materials (ATC basics are included below too)

ua-kit-workshop-july-2009

… One piece of patterned paper (trim exactly to 8 1/2″ x 11″),  eight journaling tags from the July kit (I used the nineth for the ATC), straight edge and X-acto (or scissors), gluestick, sewing machine (optional), ATC envelope template (Print directly from Mirkwood Template, onto cardstock.), ATC base paper (3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ piece of cardstock, or other sturdy base, like chipboard or matboard).

Follow pictoral folding directions above, although I tend to use a straightedge and X-acto when cutting the center fold (D)… (I’m better with more precise tools!)

Then, orient book so you have a front cover facing you, and use gluestick to add a journaling tag to each panel (Cover – back, 1-8)… For mine, I just glued the center, and machine stitched around the edges of all of the tags. (This is done with the book flattened out, then I fold back to book “shape”.)

Then, you can decorate however you see fit!!… Pictures of both of my pieces follow… Have fun, and consider creating something “off the page”, for a change!!

Kristin's June Kit Workshop: Clear thingy

Okay ….i got this clear mini album with this new June Kit in the mail …and let me just say, “clear stuff just scares me!!!”

But I wanted to use it is a cool and different way so I looked at it and it was a little plyable and thought I could cut this and it would not break into a million pieces …we would see ….and that would really freak them out at UA ….LOL ….I have one more left and was going to use my Sizzix machine to cut the last one out for a page …who knows where that one will end up ….

So I cut these cloud out freehand into the shape that I wanted and then outlined them with a white Sharpie so you could see them on my page ….
