Pick a Technique Challenge Dec2

As I was creating this LO, my original intention was for the challenge to be to create a two page LO with uncropped 4×6 photos. But then I started doing all these other techniques and I thought “Oh, maybe that could be the challenge…or that…or that”. Anyway, I couldn’t make up my mind, so here is what I want you to do. Choose TWO of the following and incorporate it into a Layout!

Upload your creations to the NEW Ning gallery and TAG YOUR LAYOUT WITH DEC2. Creations must be uploaded to the gallery by Dec. 31 to be eligible for the prize.

Pick TWO of the following for your LO:

1. Create a 2 page LO with upcropped 4×6 photos.

2. Stamp a border or frame.

3. Stitch a border.

4. Use lace on your LO.

5. Use Rubons on a photo.

6. Put your title on your photos.

Can’t wait to see how you tackle this challenge!

Gradation of Color Challenge Due December 1st

I love to see colors gradually changing in hues, tones, and shades. I think it is so beautiful!  Just like the colors of the landscape gradually fade away as we head towards winter, I want to see on a layout some gradation of color.

Delight by Carole StirratThe details:

Create a 1 or a 2 page layout

You may use any monochromatic color combination with patterned paper or solid cardstock.

Your color gradation may be the main focus or just an accent.

Due in the Urban Anthology Gallery by Midnight December 1, 2009

A prize will be given to one random entry, International applicants will receive a gift certificate to the store.

Winner will be posted here on the blog, and must claim prize as directed in the winning announcement.

Good luck!

Recycle Challenge

I am astonished by how much recylcing we put to the curb each week.  The recyling bin can be a goldmine for some good scrappy goodness!  I had a box of books that I was going to take to Goodwill, but I decided to rip out some pages in one of the books and use it on a page!

I ripped up the pages into strips and I used some fabric stiffener and water mixture to soak the papers.  Then I arranged the strips on a piece of waxed paper and let it dry.  Some more tearing and a few spritzes of glimmer mist and I have a unique background!

For this weeks challenge, I want you to use something with print on it from your recycle bin….newspapers, magazines, cardboard, even empty food packaging.  You can use the item in any way you want: create some papers or embellishments or a title.

Layout entries for this challenge must be uploaded to the Urban Anthology Gallery by Tuesday, November 24, 2009, to be eligible for the prize drawing.  Be sure to link back to this post once you have completed the challenge.

Challenge #1: Creating a Paper Element and a Card

Recently I was told about this idea of using a stamp (rubber or acrylic) as a cast and TOILET PAPER to make paper elemets to use on your cards or layouts… What an easy and inexpensive idea…

THE CHALLENGE:

There are two parts…

1) Creat at least one paper casting of your choice, using what ever paper type you desire. Please go beyond the basics and try something fun… add colors, fibers, glitter, etc.

2) Create a greeting card, and use your paper casting as one of the embellishments.

Don’t forget to post your creation in the Challenge #1 folder in the NSD gallery, by 9 AM PST, Monday May 4, 2009.

TUTORIAL:

Creating a Paper Casting with a Stamp

  • To start, choose a stamp with bold lines.  Once you’re more experienced, try a stamp with smaller lines, but it can be difficult to capture fine details.
  • Place 5 to 8 squares of any brand of toilet paper on top of one another.
  • Dampen the paper thoroughly under the faucet or use a water-filled spray bottle.
  • Place the stamp rubber side up.
  • Place the dampened paper on top of the stamp and press the wet toilet paper into the rubber.  A stencil brush works well.  Press firmly, with even pressure.
  • Note:  If you’re using a more detailed stamp, try applying the toilet paper squares one at a time.  Pounce gently with your brush between applications so that you better capture the detail of the stamp image.
  • Lift off carefully and allow the impression to air dry.  To speed the process, place in direct sunlight or on top of the dryer.
  • For a soft edge, tear around the casting when it’s still slightly damp.  You can also use decorative scissors once the piece is dry to add a more finished edge.
  • Color with chalks using a Q-tip.  Or you can use a brush to apply watercolors.  Radiant Pearls and Peral Ex pigment powders can also be used.
  • Mount the casting on a card with sticky tabls, double-sided tape, or liquid glue (applied lightly).
