Got Talent Challenge 2

It’s time for the second challenge in the Urban Anthology Design Team Call, Got Talent! So far the entries for Challenge 1 have been truly amazing. I thought our last design team call was tough, this one is going to be just as hard to decide on who will be on our next design team. The voting will start at 12:01 PST Saturday to 12:00 Midnight Wednesday right here on our blog! So don’t forget to come by and vote for your favorite design team member!

Now for Challenge 2! This challenge will be due midnight PST October 1st, 2009 if you are participating in Option 1 and would like your entry voted on. Otherwise you have until the end of the series of challenges Midnight October 22, 2009 to complete them all and submit your portfolio!

Challenge 2:

Stretch your dollars… show us how to make your product go far… Make a layout (one or two page your choice) and be creative with the product you use… show us how you can make your paper stretch, how to make custom embellishments, create your own patterned paper… pull out all the stops, to make the simple, the old, and all those left-over’s go far and still be stylish. Really, we want you to pull out the OLD stuff and use it… yeah, that stuff from 2001 that’s collecting dust! The BOX of scraps that we are saving for the “perfect project” That funky card stock we HAD to have… or that big paper pad of patterned paper with 10 of each pattern! That stuff… I know you have it! :)

Also, with this challenge include a tutorial with photos in the gallery, showing one of your tips/techniques used on the layout. Check out our current design teams workshops to see an example of a tutorial. You know click the word over there that says WORKSHOP –>

Good Luck and I can not WAIT to see what you make. :)

Technique Tuesday 9.22.09–A quick vignette

Here’s how I add a quick vignette to the edges of my photos without any type of photo-editing software.

First, you need some ink, a slick writer, and a photo.
Photobucket

Ink all the edges of your photo, and on the corners apply more than on the straight edges. You also want to make the ink curve in the corners.

the inked photo:

Next, go back with your Slick Writer (fine tip), and draw a line around your photo, again getting thicker and darker on the corners.
Photobucket

And then when you’ve finished you’ve got a custom made vignette in about 2 minutes or faster!
(much better and faster for me than any editing system or site!)

And then on a LO made with Sept.’s kit “Oops I did it again!” “One of our Family Favorites”

Design Team Call… Now is your time, Join the Challenge!

UA got talent design team search

Welcome to the Urban Anthology Design Team Call…”Urban Anthology’s Got Talent!” We are sad to say good bye to our current design team, as they have been so inspirational and talented, and such wonderful ladies to work with. But it’s time to see some fresh new ideas. It’s time for you to dig deep into your stash, and deep into your skills and pull out all of those wonderful creations, tricks, and techniques you have been waiting for the “right time” to make.

I bet your wondering how you can be apart of our next design team…

There are two ways to play… its pretty simple… you can try your luck…or take it easy over the next 5 weeks and show us what you have got! Here is a look at the two options:

Option 1… try your luck…

Each week you must submit your work in the appropriate Urban Anthology Gallery folder by Midnight the Thursday after the assignment is posted. Starting the following Saturday the entries will be posted on the Urban Anthology blog for 5 days to be voted on by the members and visitors to UA blog… that’s right, get your friends, get your families, get your Facebook stalking buddies to come vote for you! At the end of the competition the person with the most points will win a position on our design team. The catch is you won’t know your score until you win!!! Oh the drama, but us girls love drama don’t we??? But remember, the person with the most points must have completed all 5 of the challenges by the final due date. (All challenges do not have to be voted on, however, challenges submitted after each weekly voting date, will not receive any points)

The points will be assigned as follows:

  • 20 points for each of the first four challenges, and 40 points for challenge 5, for a total of 120 points possible.
  • Points will be given based on rating earned from the online vote.
    • The top rating will get 20 points, the second top will get 19 points, 15th place 6 points and so on…
    • After the first 15 entries, every person after that will get 5 points regardless of rank.

Option 2… slow and steady…

Participate in all five challenges, and have them all completed by Midnight Thursday, October 22, 2009, with your work placed in the appropriate folders in the Urban Anthology Gallery. Three lucky participants will be selected based on the overall work completed over the 5 weeks of challenges.

The “portfolio” that you will have created over the 5 weeks should demonstrate the following:

Your unique style, that is well defined

How well your style works with our kits

Your ability to bring new ideas to the Urban Anthology Message Board and Blog

Your creativity

Your adaptability to a variety of challenges and activities

Are you ready to get started?

Do you have your scissors, paper trimmer, adhesives, chalks, inks, stickers, papers, flowers, embellishments, etc… ready to go? Well… it looks like you have to wait until 12:01 AM Friday, September 18th, 2009 for your first challenge!

And remember, there will be a new challenge posted each Friday, for 5 weeks. All of the projects will be due Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 12 Midnight PST.

If you want to know what you will be expected to do as a design team member, check out the Design Team Call page for all the details.

If you have any questions please post them in the forum. We also have a special section in the forum setup for your chit chat about the Design Team Call… so join in the fun, check us out, and we can’t wait to see what you can do!

Let the challenges begin!!!

Technique Tuesday: Simple but fun!!!

You know I normally do not do simple but this is distressing 101 ….sanding …..get out a few pieces of chipboard that will work for the design of your page ….

Then i used the chipboard cut out that came with this months kit …and just started sanding the edges of it with this cool paper (Core’dinations) so that you could see the outline of the leaf ….pressing down firmly …

Then i cut out the leaves to make this cool tree ….

And then i did not stop there …I found this scolloped piece of chipboard in my stash and sanded around the edge of the layout and then outlined it with a black sharpie …and the cool clouds also ….thanks for looking …have fun playing with this paper!!!

Here is the completed LO:

Urban Anthology On the Road

Have you ever wanted to see Urban Anthology in person! Well you can… you can see our kits up close and personal, as well as me. :) Though the kits are probably far more exciting… Take a look at our booth from the last retreat we attended, with Scrappin’ Escapes…. we will be at the November Scrappin’ Escapes retreat as well… the other dates are still pending… but will we will most likely be there, becasue they are just so much fun I can’t resist going! If you would like to have Urban Anthology come to your retreat or scrapbook event, we’d love to come to show off our kits, and even teach some classes…

Kristin's September Kit Workshop: Scrap like me!!!

I am going to tell you how I scrapbook …it might seem a little backwards for some of you but I have been scrapbooking since the dawn of time so lately when I want to scrap it is technique based because I think my pages are all looking the same lately ….so here goes ….
I have run out of paper mostly from this kit and I was trying to figure out what to do with all these wonderful Prima flowers that I have left …so i used them as a mask and sprayed them on the backsides of the flowers with glimmer mist ….

then, i sprayed the other corner with glimmer mist to match the other corner to make it kind of match and punched some holes in it and then added the paper behind it ….
Next, i started layering the paper, folding, curling and inking ….

Then I thought …gotta put some of those flowers that I just misted on the paper, so I stuck those on and needed a different centers to the flowers so I cut little squares …and they needed just a little something in the center so I cut the little blue circles from the dots on the alphabet sticker letters ….

So here is the final product …scrappin’ by Kristin ….fly by the seat of your pants scrapping!!!
